Rockville, Md.— Costello Construction, a Maryland-based firm providing general construction services to public and private sector clients, recently completed construction on the new state-of-the-art headquarters for the City of Rockville Police Department in Rockville, Maryland.

The site of the new Rockville Police Station is a former historic United States Post Office, therefore it was extremely important to both Costello and the architect, Wheeler Goodman Masek & Associates, to maintain the original building’s integrity. To do so, the team performed extensive restoration to the existing masonry, marble, terrazzo, doors and exterior windows. In addition, they created a three-story, 14,500 square foot “Annex” building on the same site.

The Annex is particularly unique because it has a vegetative green roof system, skylights, a blast- and bullet-resistant curtain wall, storefront glass, masonry and cast stone veneer. In addition, both the Annex and the building that formerly housed the post office have hydraulic elevators and exterior zinc metal panels.

“While this was a niche project for us, we took interest in it because of the historic significance, urban location and the unique architectural elements of the building,” said David Costello, president of Costello Construction. “The Rockville Police Station truly resonated with our team, and I see it as a great addition to our growing portfolio.”
