Rockville, MD (March 19, 2014) – James G. Davis Construction (DAVIS) was selected by the Washington Business Journal as one of its 2013-2014 Washington-area finalists to be considered for a single nominee spot for the national Jefferson Awards in June. The nonprofit awards program, founded more than four decades ago, recognizes companies that build community service into their corporate culture.

Since being founded in 1966, DAVIS’ culture of service has evolved into a creatively integrated philanthropy program that is woven into the entire company, from the top to bottom. Robust employee volunteer support is typical at the biggest and smallest of activities – everything from building a play garden during DCBIA community improvement day, to serving as energy conservation mentors to students at an area elementary school, to staffing an annual holiday elf store which benefits the families of Jubilee Housing.

“Our employees enjoy working as a team outside of the workplace. When you join together to do something meaningful, you build connections with your colleagues as well as your community,” said Erin Hmielewski, Senior Marketing Communications Manager. Hmielewski leads DAVIS’ community service outreach program.

At the heart of DAVIS’ philanthropy program is a local-focused approach that supports organizations in three core areas – community well-being, education and children, and sustainability. A longtime partner of area nonprofits including Jubilee Housing and National Building Museum, DAVIS’ impact goes above and beyond writing a check. Last year DAVIS provided over 2,500 in-kind construction and professional service hours, truckloads of construction materials, and financial support to over 120 local nonprofit organizations.

The Washington Business Journal will make their nominee selection for the national awards in June.
