Rockville, MD  – James G. Davis Construction (DAVIS), a leading general contractor in the Washington, DC area, scores a hole in one for Make-A-Wish® MidAtlantic. In September, DAVIS held its first annual charity golf tournament at Cattail Creek Country Club in Glenwood, Maryland. More than 130 DAVIS employees and subcontractors participated in the tournament. The event raised over $56,000 to benefit Make-A-Wish MidAtlantic, which helps grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Matt Weirich, Vice-President of DAVIS’ education market sector, came up with the idea to the hold the tournament. An avid golfer and advocate for giving back to the community, Weirich credited DAVIS’ subcontractors for making the event a success.

“We have strong ties in the market, and the subcontractors really came through for us, just like they do on our jobsites,” said Weirich.

Weirich initially expected the tournament would raise about $30,000. Both he and Make-A-Wish leaders were thrilled by the final tally.

“We were truly shocked,” said John Ogden, Vice-President of Communications at Make-A-Wish MidAtlantic.

Ogden said the money raised will allow Make-A-Wish to grant nearly eight wishes, given the average cost of a wish is $7,500.

“The wish experience that this money will guarantee impacts not just those children, but their families, friends and communities as well. So, this money will have a lasting effect on the lives of countless individuals in our communities,” said Ogden.

Weirich hopes to make the golf tournament a longtime tradition at DAVIS, with organizers selecting a different charity each year.
