Washington DC’s International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 26 celebrates 125 years as an Organized Labor Union this Fall at the new MGM National Harbor.
“This celebration is not only for our brotherhood and their families, but for the construction community of customers, vendors, builders and contractors, ” said Local 26 President Thomas Myers.
The IBEW Local Union 26 celebration called, “American Cities Tour” will be held September 23, 2017 at the new MGM National Harbor at 6:00 pm. The celebration will feature different themed rooms with entertainment, food, open bar and fun from different cities across America. We will entertain our diverse members and their guests with food and entertainment and decor from New York, Miami, New Orleans, Chicago and Dallas. “We hope to excite our membership and prepare our local for the next 125 years,” said Business Manager George Hogan. Early ticket sales have been brisk.
In 1892, the year IBEW Local 26 got its charter, Washington, D.C. was comprised of dirt roads, cow pastures, and only a few of the monuments that stand today. By 1894, Local 26 members had set the U. S. Capitol building ablaze with lights for the first time
in history. 125 years later IBEW is still going strong. This celebration is a testament to all who have worked so hard to make it what it is today. To purchase tickets to the event, or to become a sponsor, visit www.ibewlocal26.org.
