Rockville, MD — Rockville-based general contractor, Grunley Construction Company, Inc. (Grunley), celebrates its official 60th anniversary on September 13th, 2015.

“I’m proud of the outstanding projects we’ve built over the last six decades, the trusting partnerships we’ve developed, the challenges we’ve tackled, the clients we’ve satisfied and the lasting mark Grunley has made on the Washington, D.C. region. I’m confident that Grunley will continue its track record of healthy growth and steady expansion as a major competitor and Mid-Atlantic leader in the construction industry.”
Ken Grunley, CEO of Grunley

A family-owned company, Grunley was originally founded in 1955 as Grunley, Walsh and Blanche, Inc. and started with a team of three, one of whom was co-founder Martin Grunley, (who passed away at age 98 in April of this year). The company grew quickly and became known for several difficult and extensive modernizations to historic landmarks throughout Washington including the White House, the Blair House (the President’s guest house), the Library of Congress, the original Smithsonian Institution castle, the Old Post Office Building and the Cannon House of Representatives Office Building. Other early projects included renovations to the National Portrait Gallery (1964), multiple renovations to the National Institutes of Health (1950’s) and involvement in the original construction of Dulles Airport (1961).

Grunley assumed its current name in 1988 when Martin Grunley co-founded Grunley Construction Company, Inc. with his son, Ken Grunley, who is the current President and CEO. The company has seen incredible progress over its 60 years, currently employing more than 300 people, recording revenues of $350 million and serving a diverse range of public and private clients. A recognized and respected general contractor for the region’s commercial, institutional and government sectors, Grunley is continuing to increase staff, pursue new markets and expand its portfolio.

Grunley’s diverse portfolio extends across the Mid-Atlantic Region. For 60 years, the Grunley team has renovated esteemed historically significant structures on the National Mall; performed major building systems and infrastructure modernizations of aging office buildings for today’s modern work environment; expanded college campus facilities throughout the region to accommodate rapid growth; and extended open arms to ensure that our nation’s international allies have welcoming embassies within the city.
