HITT Contracting’s Multifamily Team Kicks Off Initiative to Plant a Tree for Every Apartment Unit Built.
Trees for Keys aims to unlock a more sustainable future for both people and planet

Falls Church, VA  – HITT Contracting’s Multifamily team recently launched their Trees for Keys initiative, which aims to plant a tree for every individual unit they complete in a multifamily building. To kick off the project, the team came together on Earth Day with Casey Trees to plant trees along DC’s Suitland Parkway.

Currently the team has 2,050 apartments under construction. In addition to planting trees for these units, the team will also plant trees for all future units turned over. They are working retroactively too, planting 1,219 trees through a partnership with the National Forest Foundation for units previously completed.

“Every key that unlocks one of the new apartment units we’ve built also unlocks a greener future for the planet,” said Josh Foreso, Vice President of our Base Building sector, who oversees the company’s multifamily work and developed this initiative. “Our team recognizes that our resources are finite, and we’re proud to be able to give back in this way.”

“This is a natural extension of our Community Contribution and Environmental Sustainability efforts—both pillars of our Corporate Responsibility plan,” said Katie Rothenberg, Director of Sustainable Construction and Corporate Responsibility. “We strive to be a leader in building sustainably, and are grateful for the opportunity to promote green practices in our communities as well.”

The company’s recently completed multifamily projects include The Related Companies’ One Hill South, The JBG Companies’ Atlantic Plumbing, Quadrangle Development Corp’s Lyric Apartments, and both the WestBroad Residences in the City of Falls Church and Prosperity Flats in the growing Merrifield area. They are currently engaged on JBG’s West Half project, Quadrangle’s Lydian at 400 K Street, and PN Hoffman’s 680 Eye Street job.
