Washington, DC — GCS-SIGAL, LLC has been awarded the new construction of North Capitol Commons in the NoMa neighborhood of DC. This 87,000 SF mixed-use residential community is located on one of the main roads leading to the United States Capitol, offering residents monumental views of the north and south of North Capitol Street. The building will provide affordable housing units including housing for veterans.
Designed by Sorg Architects, the 14-story building will consist of 12 floors of micro studio apartments (124 units) over office and retail spaces on the ground level and community/office spaces on the second floor. Upon completion, North Capitol Commons will offer conference space, management offices, a lounge, fitness center, retail space, and social services. Fitting into the neighborhood’s setting, the new building’s slim structure, modulated and rotating massing and glass façade at the street level will creating a welcome feel for the community.
The project will follow Sustainable Design – Enterprise Green Communities for New Construction. Expected project completion is Winter 2015.
