FALLS CHURCH, VA  – HITT Contracting Inc., one of the top green contractors in the DC metro-area, is pleased to announce Tysons Metro Center I as its 100th LEED Certified project. The recently repositioned Class A building is part of Tysons Corner’s growing green building movement in response to the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project. The cohesive project team comprised of HITT, Beacon Capital Partners, Cassidy Turley, Gensler and GHT Limited contributed to the successful completion of the 11-story, 156,000 s.f. renovation. Moreover, the project boasts zero safety incidents and no lost man hours out of the approximately 48,000 hours on-site.

The renovation and repurposing strategy for many of the older building assets in Tysons Corner are centered around environmental stewardship with a focus on transit-oriented development. To capitalize on this strategy, Tysons Metro Center I became one of Beacon Capital’s first key projects in the greening of its portfolio.

“Beacon is committed to sustainable buildings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at all of its properties,” said Managing Director Andrew Moore of Beacon Capital. “As a US EPA ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, our commitment to energy efficiency and LEED certification at our properties is illustrated through the example of the Tysons Metro Center I project. We choose to work with HITT since it understands and shares our goals, and know that HITT will perform the construction in an excellent manner.”

HITT has been engaged in the green movement in the building and construction industry since LEED became commonplace in March of 2000. HITT’s sustainable construction department boasts a green portfolio worth $2 billion and more than 45 projects actively pursuing various levels of green certification such as LEED and Green Globes.

“The Tysons Metro Center I project is a great example of the growing building repositioning trend in the greening of downtown Tysons Corner,” said Kim Pexton, HITT’s Director of Sustainable Construction. “Its close proximity to Tysons’ finest retail locations and the new Silver Line make it an ideal property asset in this competitive market.”

“HITT’s expertise in building repositioning and approach to material management were crucial to the success of the project,” added Mike Bellusci, Vice President for HITT’s Institutional Sector. “Furthermore, the close collaboration of the entire project team made the project completion and subsequent LEED application process seamless.”click to open

The newly updated Tysons Metro Center I includes a state-of-the-art fitness center, new café with outdoor seating and landscaped rooftop terrace. The building is walking distance to several amenities including Tysons Galleria Mall, 35 restaurants, 73 shops, 25 services, 5 hotels, and a Sport & Health Club. In addition, the HITT, Beacon Capital Partners, Cassidy Turley, Gensler and GHT Limited team is now finishing up work on Tysons Metro Center III which is applying for LEED Gold status as well as the Presidential Tower in Crystal City.

To commemorate this sustainable construction milestone, HITT released a customized infographic to illustrate how green building has redefined the way the commercial real estate industry thinks about the places we live, work and learn.
