Skanska, a leading global construction and development firm, has created a new Mid-Atlantic Region to enhance its building operations in four important markets: Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. This new organizational structure harnesses the collective talent in these markets and builds upon the strengths of existing offices in the area.

Effective January 1, 2025, Mark Balling, current executive vice president and general manager for Skanska USA’s building operations in North Carolina and Virginia will assume leadership for both its Rockville and North Carolina/Virginia construction offices in this new Mid-Atlantic Region.

“The combined experience and expertise in this new region will help Skanska better serve previously distinct geographies, address opportunities in the available space of this larger region and grow an already strong presence in the region,” said Balling. “The teams in all four markets have partnered on several projects over the years and their tremendous talent will position us to optimize our operations to continue to deliver exceptional construction work throughout the region.”

Skanska’s North Carolina/Virginia office has built a diverse portfolio across a range of market sectors, greatly expanding its footprint and capacity from Raleigh/Durham to Greensboro, North Carolina and throughout the greater Commonwealth of Virginia. Skanska looks to leverage this experience to build a more robust book of business in a larger, combined area encompassing North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

Skanska is currently constructing George Mason University’s Life Sciences and Engineering Building at its Prince William County Campus. 17xM, an 11-story, 334,000-square-foot trophy office building in D.C.’s central business district and OZMA, a 12-story, mixed-use, residential development with 275 luxury apartments in NoMa were constructed and developed by the firm.

“Creating this new Mid-Atlantic Region is an important strategic move that underscores our commitment to these strong and vibrant markets and the integration leverages our strengths and positions us for even greater success in the future,” said Clay Haden, President & CEO, Skanska USA Building.
