After more than 50 years in the Washington Metropolitan construction industry, Donnie Waddell and Jerry Therrien are retiring and passing the torch to the next generation of leadership.
Donnie and Jerry started working together in 1972 and managed a diverse array of commercial construction projects before founding Therrien Waddell Construction Group in 2005. Donnie and Jerry’s mission has always been “Building Partners for Life.” Together, they mentored a team of construction management professionals in partnering with clients to provide exceptional value and have now tasked this team with carrying forward their legacy.
Matt Maynard now serves as President of the organization. Matt has been with TW for more than 16 years, most recently serving as VP of Operations with responsibility for the company’s Project Management and Estimating functions. Dan Coffey will continue to serve as TW’s Vice President with responsibility for the company’s Business Development and Preconstruction efforts. Dan is a Professor of Construction Science and will continue to use his expertise in pre-construction planning and conceptual budgeting to achieve our clients’ goals. Donnie’s long-time right-hand man, Dennis Dorsey, has been promoted to General Superintendent and is now managing all field operations. Amanda Raman will continue to serve as TW’s CFO with a focus on financial management, administrative operations and business planning.
Throughout their tenure in the local construction industry, Donnie and Jerry have made countless friends and developed many relationships, which have been valued above all. Jerry has always said that building a better company every day was more important than creating the biggest company any day. At TW, success is the satisfaction that we overcame obstacles with collaboration and integrity and met challenges head on.
Jerry and Donnie are proud to drive around the MD-VA-DC area and see the finished projects the TW Team completed under their leadership. They are equally proud of TW’s legacy of giving back to the local community by serving and supporting numerous charitable organizations and causes.
Today, Donnie and Jerry are both entering new chapters. Donnie will be settling down in Florida and will enjoy traveling, relaxing on his boat and offshore fishing. Jerry is staying in the area for now and hopes to continue to run into many of his friends. In addition to his current Board position for ABC Metro Washington, he plans on continuing roles in the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce, BlackRock Center for the Arts, and Sandy Spring Museum. Jerry’s greatest desire is to maintain the many friendships developed over the course of his professional life.
Jerry and Donnie would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for so many wonderful memories and so much good will. In the meantime, they know they are leaving the company in great hands and poised for further success with a team of professionals who are honored to continue their legacy.
