{"id":4097,"date":"2011-11-03T20:12:49","date_gmt":"2011-11-03T20:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wbcnet.org\/member_news\/fort-detrick-education-center-expansion\/"},"modified":"2011-11-03T20:12:49","modified_gmt":"2011-11-03T20:12:49","slug":"fort-detrick-education-center-expansion","status":"publish","type":"member_news","link":"https:\/\/www.wbcnet.org\/member_news\/fort-detrick-education-center-expansion\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Detrick Education Center Expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<img alt='' class='align-right' src='\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/fort-dietrick-education-center.jpg' \/>The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers &#8211; Baltimore District has awarded <strong>Grunley\/Goel Joint Venture, LLC<\/strong>, a joint venture between <strong>Grunley Construction Co., Inc<\/strong>. and <strong>Goel Services, Inc<\/strong>., a $7.5 million contract to expand <strong>Fort Detrick&rsquo;s Education Center<\/strong> by 18,000 square feet and construct a new 10,000 square-foot community auditorium within Building 1520. Two buildings will also be demolished, and site restoration performed. The project will seek LEED certification.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe education center will receive a new building entrance with aluminum curtain wall system, a vegetated membrane roof, and a new second floor with associated elevator and staircase. New space will be created for classrooms, offices, and conference rooms and a connector link will join the center to the adjacent existing library. The auditorium will seat 350 patrons, and include theater lighting and new audio-visual and communication systems. New energy-efficient mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems will be installed throughout. The project is scheduled to get underway in October and wrap-up by July 2013.
