The new 98,500 SF public school for Prince William County will consist of two separate buildings and will address critical overcrowding issues currently faced by many schools along the I-95 corridor. The existing school will be torn down following completion of the new facility.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Moseley Architects, the two new buildings are connected by an indoor corridor and will include classrooms, teacher\/ faculty lounges, a gymnasium that also serves as a cafeteria, and office space for faculty and administration. Construction consists of a steel frame and masonry structure with masonry exterior and roofing system. Interior finishes, casework, building systems, FF&amp;E, utilities, a new bus loop, parking, and miscellaneous site work are also included. The school is targeting LEED for Schools 2009 certification and has an expected completion date of Fall 2017 (which includes the demolition of the existing school).<\/p>\n<p>According to Prince William County Public School\u2019s website, the current Kilby Elementary School originally opened in 1959 and \u201cis a small, diverse and hard-working neighborhood school of about 450 children. The school is within walking distance for 95 percent of its students.
