In conjunction with the WBC Summer Networking at Cactus Cantina, Smoot Construction invites you to a sidewalk tour of our Ward 3 construction project 2 blocks away on Wednesday, August 28 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. As you arrive for the networking event, please take a short detour to see this project that is currently underway. Directions to the Site.

The Ward 3 Short Term Family Housing project is a new six-story, 45,000 SF housing facility for the Department of Human Services that will provide short term family housing for families coming out of homelessness. The structure consists of a 1 story conventional concrete podium, with 5 stories of a composite structural slab supported with prefabricated metal stud bearing walls. The façade includes Brick, Terracotta, Storefront, Curtainwall, Punch windows and metal panels. In addition to the 50 “dorm style” sleeping units, abundant indoor and outdoor community gathering spaces are provided including dining, kitchen and multipurpose spaces, study rooms, health/exam spaces, playground and outdoor assembly spaces, office and meeting spaces, as well as wrap-around services to assist families in finding permanent housing and employment. The project is targeting LEED gold certification, with green features that include green roof, bioretention rain garden, and features for enhanced indoor environmental quality. In order to accommodate the housing and community facility on the tight urban site adjacent to an existing police station, the project also included a 3-level precast parking garage with 240 spaces for officer parking. Construction is on schedule for completion December 2019.

 About SMOOT

Founded in 1946 with offices in DC since 1968, Smoot Construction Company is a construction services company that is recognized for undertaking complex iconic projects, and making a difference for their clients, employees and community.
